Local attractions to Chobblebox are:
Elan Valley – 72 square miles of unspoilt countryside, reservoirs & dams.
Back in the 1890’s, Birmingham had a rapidly expanding population & clean water was in short supply.
Birmingham City Council began their search for a clean water supply. They found it in the Elan Valley.
An average of 1830mm of rainfall falls in the valley each year and having an altitude higher than Birmingham, water is transported easily by gravity without the need for it to be pumped. It speeds it’s way along 118km of pipeline.
There are a total of 6 dams as listed below :
DOL Y MYNACH
PEN Y GARREG
There is a visitor centre at the valley where you can find out more about the building of the dams, walk cycle or drive and appreciate how beautiful they are.
Other local attractions include:
Welsh Royal Crystal
Gigrin Farm Red Kite Feeding station
There are b & bs in and around the town.
